This is one of the most important sessions we’ll do at HireConf.
It’s not just for diversity and inclusion leaders. It’s not for people who attended historically black colleges. It’s not just for hiring professionals who are building programs right now.
When we say all, this session means all. In a world where we hear so much bad news – from disturbing stories of people who still don’t get calls back using historically black and brown names to discrimination at work cases and more – it will take all of our energies across every company and city to move forward.
In this conversation with Jackye Clayton and Torin Ellis, expect to be surprised by the data, shocked by the stories and inspired to act. As practitioners and empathetic leaders in the diversity and inclusion space, Jackye and Torin know how to translate concepts into tangible action, which is fundamental for progress. With all the buzz on diversity and inclusion, so many have ignored this conversation on the actions we must take to tangibly moving forward.
But why? Why would companies ignore these programs when the problems are so obvious?
“They’re scared and don’t realize the impact D&I programs have,” said Torin. “Many companies don’t realize this is more than a social movement, it’s a business methodology.”
Businesses face a threat to their bottom line, not just their attraction program, without a formal diversity and inclusion program. Yet still, many leaders are talking about D&I without taking action. Torin estimates that if you exclude companies of less than 500 employees, only 20% of organizations even have a formal program. A sure sign you’re not alone even if you’ve never gotten started.
That’s why this session is open to all. For beginners and diversity practitioners, this session will be a safe place to be honest about challenges and the evolution of your program – or lack thereof. A conversation where you can be honest about why your program has never taken off in the first place and share what’s really happening with experts who are building programs every day.
